Luisa from work held her baby shower at Maggiano’s at The Pointe. It was great. Checkout the menu. At the baby shower, they played the “you can’t say ‘baby’ game” where you can’t say ‘baby’ at your table. I lost my necklace immediately, but 5 minutes to the end, a woman at my table said “baby.” She had collected the 4/5 at the table and I called her out for saying “baby.” But I still did not win as someone else had collected 7.
Back to Epcot
We went to Epcot and rode Spaceship Earth, Soarin’, Livin’ with the Land, and Maelstrom. We saw the Norway movie. We ate in France. I had the mango green tea smoothie in China.
Sparrow Update
The sparrows are thriving at Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge at Eagles Roost in Lake Nona. The center has received three more sparrows since then. Volunteers feed them every 15 minutes around the clock.
I went to another Chamber event. I placed my business card in the fish bowl and I was the big winner. I won 12 chocolate covered fruit from Edible Arrangements which is a $29 prize.
FastPass to a Science
Dad made it to Orlando this afternoon. After work, he and I made it to Magic Kingdom around 6:45 p.m. as we had a FastPass good until 7 p.m. We went to Buzz Lightyear with Dad scoring over 600,000. Then, we rode Carousel of Progress and It’s A Small World. Afterwards, we had a FastPass for Splash Mountain for 7:25 p.m. – 8:25 p.m. We ate cheeseburgers at Pecos Bills and we had a FastPass at 8:55 p.m. for Jungle Cruise. After scanning it, I jumped out of line and scheduled a fourth FastPass for Buzz Lightyear again at 9:20 p.m. and jumped back in line for Jungle Cruise. I was able to beat Dad with over 200,000. He must have missed some key targets. We went to Starbucks and I got a decaf coffee. We watched the light show and Wishes. We left at 10:15 p.m. We did a lot in 3.5 hours.
Disappointed by the U.S. Postal Service
I sent my Father’s Day present on Wednesday and it was supposed to arrive yesterday (Saturday). It did not.
Hopefully, it arrives tomorrow.
World Cup at Epcot
I have never seen Disney care about much outside of Disney. I still get annoyed that more is not done for Memorial Day. But they are really supporting the World Cup. They have even opened a viewing area in an area I have never seen before. There are at least three different World Cup areas in addition to merchandise areas. This must mean there are many international visitors interested as I would say 50% of Americans are interested and many only interested in the US matches. I did notice many Brazilian tour groups at Disney, so many might be trying to get out of Brazil during the event.
Star Wars Weekend Fireworks
I went to Downtown Disney and Hollywood Studios. I decided to see the special Star Wars fireworks as it is the last weekend for the event. I almost didn’t make it to 9:30 p.m. I was so tired, but I did and I am glad I did. The fireworks were great and I knew most of the music even without seeing the movies.
Save the bird (s)
Yesterday, we experienced some drama at work.
The front desk floater who is 18 came in yesterday and she said saw a bird laying on the cement outside. I went outside to see it. I really didn’t know what to do with it. I didn’t want to touch it. I went back inside to get my phone, so I could take a picture. The girl is now sniffling as the bird is struggling. I asked another colleague to come outside to help her. I thought he would agree with me to just leave it alone. I wouldn’t have even noticed it was a bird in the beginning.
Well, the colleague who is approaching 85 sees how traumatic this is for the girl, so he moves the bird into some shade near a bush using a paper towel. Well, just as we move out of the way, another bird falls to the cement from the parking garage roof! The older man yells, “Stop hurting your children!! Don’t you see what you are doing to your children.” I think he was trying to talk to the mother.
They proceeded to hydrate the birds a little.
Some Hispanic Chamber friends came over with a printout on what to do. It said not to give the birds water. I found a Rubbermaid container and some gloves and the 18-year-old made a nest out of paper towels. We then leave the birds alone hoping the mother will come back.
Next thing, I look out my window and I see them back out them with maintenance looking at the roof trying to put the Rubbermaid container up with the nest. Evidently, there was not a nest, so they decided to take the birds to the Lake Nona Wildlife Refuge or something where the birds will get fed every 15 minutes. The 18-year-old will keep in contact for updates on the situation.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Ride
My expectations were low for this ride as it was described as in between Barnstormer and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It started off Barnstormer-like, but there is actually a steep enough drop at the end. You drop and then curve around. My FastPass was between 11 and 12. I arrived at 11:53 a.m. I was off the ride by 11:57 a.m. I waited until 1:25 for my Big Thunder Mountain Railroad FastPass, but I left after that ride. I had a FastPass to meet Ana and Elsa at 4:25 p.m., but it was really hot. If I had waited, I probably wouldn’t have liked the picture anyways. I would have felt weird getting a picture anyways. I do like getting pictures with characters during races, but that is about it.
New places at DTD
I went to Downtown Disney this weekend. It feels like I haven’t been there in years. There are many new things there. There are now two Starbucks, a new Wetzel’s Pretzels and Haagen Daz, and a new Marketplace Co-op.
The Starbucks on the Westside is neat as you can see a Starbucks in Anaheim’s live feed, but I was there at 11 a.m., so it wasn’t on.
The Co-op is ok. It has about 5 tiny stores – a tech store, a little girls’ store, a purse store, a home goods store, and a sports clothing store. I think the home goods store is neat. It has Disneyland themed items. I liked the trash can salt and pepper shakers. I think the stores should have been wider as the hallway between the stores seems too big.
